A one-of-a-kind Highland retreat where Scandi style meets Scottish comfort. Set on the banks of the River Tanar, this listed Victorian tower has been reimagined as a peaceful couple’s escape — elegant, intimate and completely unforgettable.
Tucked beneath towering Scots pines and with the river flowing gently past, Tower O’Ess is the ultimate romantic bolthole. Sink into the super-king bed or soak in the double-ended roll-top bath as the fire crackles. With no schedule to keep, time slows and the glen’s calm takes over.
Dating back to the height of the Victorian era, Tower O’Ess blends original features — including its quirky gatehouse pulley system — with every contemporary comfort. Outside, a fairy-lit hot tub looks out to the woods, the perfect spot for a night under the stars.
Designed and built between 1871 and 1873 as an imposing entrance to Glen Tanar, the tower was later converted in 1918 by Lord Glentanar, Thomas Coats. Today, its spirit remains — a fusion of heritage and renewal, reimagined for modern explorers.
Please note: Tower O’Ess is not suitable for babies or children, and the rooftop is not accessible for guests.
