Butler's Lodge

Sleeps 6

A stately cottage in the heart of Glen Tanar, rich in history and packed with character

Butler's Lodge is in the heart of the estate, in a convenient location for the Ballroom and the Coats Room. Wooden Cottage, the forest and a charming walled garden are a stone's throw away. This characterful cottage boasts a spacious open plan living area, and finished throughout in furnishings and fabrics which echo the features of the landscape.

The authentic character of the building remains in the presence of original doors, and even a 'glory hole', under-stair cupboard. It was once the home of Lord Glen Tanar's Butler, who earned £85 a year in 1900, with an additional beer allowance of three shillings and six pence a week (£17). Today it is heated by the estate's new biomass heating system, and has a charming enclosed garden with a hedge surround and a crab apple tree.
