Wildlife & The Lookout

A window into the wild heart of Glen Tanar.

Glen Tanar is alive with movement, sound and colour — from the echo of a stag’s call across the glen to the flash of a red squirrel darting through the pines. As one of Scotland’s most biodiverse estates, it’s a place where conservation and curiosity go hand in hand.

Whether you’re a nature enthusiast, a photographer, or simply someone who loves the outdoors, there are many ways to experience the wildlife of Glen Tanar up close.

The Lookout

Affectionately known as 'The Lookout', our peaceful and secluded wildlife hide offers both public viewing and exclusive photography sessions. Nestled on the edge of the ancient pine forest, it provides a front-row seat to the wildlife of the Cairngorms — with red deer, pine martens, badgers, red squirrels, golden eagles and even the elusive Scottish wildcat sometimes making an appearance.

Evening sessions typically run between 8pm and 10pm, timed to coincide with peak animal activity. With space for up to six people, The Lookout offers a truly personal experience in nature.

Sessions are limited, and you can find out more by emailing us or book directly by calling the estate office on 013398 86451.
