Travelling by car from Ballater: East along the A93 to Dinnet; turn right to Dinnet bridge then left after crossing the river onto the B976. After three miles turn right at the Bridge and Tower o' Ess into Glen Tanar. After two miles bear right at Glen Tanar House. Proceed up the hill with the equestrian centre on your left. Follow this road round the next corner, past the ‘end of public road’ sign. You will enter a yard area with the Estate Office (Brooks House) on the left-hand side. There is parking for a few cars here.
Travelling by car from Aboyne: South over the River Dee at Aboyne Bridge, turn right onto the B976 to Bridge and Tower o' Ess. Then follow as per Ballatar route.
Travelling by air: The nearest airport is Aberdeen Airport, about an hour from Glen Tanar. You can hire a car at the airport or get a taxi, which will cost at least £65. Airport taxis can be more expensive so call us for a local taxi recommendation if you wish.
Travelling by train: The nearest train stations are Stonehaven and Aberdeen where you can hire a car or take a taxi. Again, you can call us for a recommendation.
Travelling in winter weather: Winter visitors can find out whether the snow gates on the A93 are open by checking the Braemar Snow Gate Webcam. The B974 Banchory-Fettercairn road can be checked on the Cairn o’ Mount Webcam.
