Once upon a glorious day in May...

4th October 2018

Here at Glen Tanar, we're very blessed to meet many lovely people, who are preparing for one of the most important days of their lives. There is so much love (and planning!) that goes into each and every wedding day, and we relish being a part of it!

We were delighted when one of our happy couples, Calum & Laura Delaney, agreed to allow us behind the scenes of their special day. So, grab a cuppa, get comfy, and join us as we delve deeper into the magic of their wedding at Glen Tanar...

The Wedding of Calum & Laura - 5th May 2018

What attracted you to Glen Tanar as a wedding venue?

I had seen photographs of other weddings at Glen Tanar and we just had to see the place ourselves. Calum and I visited and instantly, we knew Glen Tanar was the place for us. Even as an empty un-dressed room, the ballroom had a great look and feel to it – it’s really very special!

How did you find the whole wedding planning/organisation process, and working with Shona?

We had originally planned a winter wedding, however our day had to be moved forward to May as, unfortunately, my dad was very ill. Sadly, he passed away in March, so we had very little time to get things organised. Working with Shona on the wedding, and under those circumstances, was an absolute dream - she was so helpful, kind and understanding during what was a very sad time for us. She was amazing!

Did your wedding have a visual theme?

In preparation for our humanist wedding in the ballroom, we wanted to make it look extra special! We decorated it ourselves the afternoon before, going for a 'rustic' look - adding plenty of greenery, and splashes of navy and gold. It was great fun getting stuck in!

How did you feel getting ready?

I had some fantastic suppliers who helped make it extra special! I used StephMArtristry for my make-up and her sister Ashley Milne Hair for my hair. They were both lots of fun and put me at ease. I felt relaxed the whole time, and excited to get my dress on!

What was the highlight of your big day?

It was always going to be a difficult day without my dad there, but my amazing mum stood in and walked me down the aisle. For us, the highlight was seeing our friends and family smiling and having the best day - it sounds like a cliché but everything went perfectly.

Any other special touches that helped to make it a day to remember?

The food played an important part on the day, as we wanted a real Scottish wedding, with Scottish fayre. Hudson's Catering helped make that happen, serving up a delicious menu of haggis, beef shin and sticky toffee pudding. Also, one of our best friends is a very talented baker and she did an amazing job of making our wedding cake!

Our first dance was to one of my dad's favourite songs 'Hey Laura' by Gregory Porter and our band, The Limit , had everyone up dancing all night. They were brilliant fun, and just what we wanted!
