Imagine the rushing river at your feet, a gentle wind rustling the
ancient Scots pines above, and the rambling heather-clad hills at your
back. Suddenly there’s a tug on the line…
Where better to fish for the majestic salmon than amidst the breathtaking backdrop of Glen Tanar in Royal Deeside? One of the world’s best spring salmon rivers, the magnificent River Dee has been fished for centuries, and many of the beats within Glen Tanar have been used by anglers since the 1600s. Today, the fast flowing, crystal clear waters host a series of salmon pools that provide anglers with some of the best fly-fishing in Europe.
All fishing on our four beats is fly-based and can be booked by week, part week or day, subject to availability, from 1st March until 30th September inclusive. Fishing with a ghillie is included during our Spring season (from 1st March – 30th June), and available on some beats during our Summer season (1st July – 30th September).
Our four beats on the River Dee stretch downstream from:
8km of fishing over both banks, with a ghillie present throughout the entire season.
5.2 km with a ghillie present in Spring only
6.4km of fishing with a ghillie present in Spring only
3.6km of fishing ending just above Aboyne bridge, and a ghillie present for the entire season.
Descriptions, catch statistics and availability on these beats can
also be checked through FishDee. All salmon and trout fishing within Glen Tanar and Royal Deeside is
subject to a voluntary Catch and Release policy as recommended by the Dee Conservation Code, which is supported by the Dee District Salmon
Fishery Board and the Dee Salmon Fishing Improvement Association.
