Five winter wedding ideas you don't want to miss

30th August 2017

Now we’re not saying that you’d want three feet of snow throwing all sorts of logistical nightmares at you on your wedding day but a nice, light dusting would be just right for a magical winter wedding.

At Glen Tanar we are about 175 metres above sea level and right on the edge of the Cairngorms National Park meaning that if there is snow coming, it usually lands here. Whilst winter weather can prove challenging, Glen Tanar is fully equipped to deal with even the heaviest of snow showers so rest assured that our brides always get to the Chapel (or Ballroom) on time! And although we can't control the weather, we can share our top five winter wedding ideas that just might give you a bit of inspiration for your big day.

1. Arrival drinks

Why not swap prosecco and champagne for some mulled wine or spiced apple cider? Or for the non-drinkers how about some mulled cranberry juice. Swap bubbly arrival drinks for these fragrant drinks and you and your guests are sure to feel extra festive in no time.

2. Wintery wedding favours

Now everyone loves a snow globe. All those mesmerizing white flakes swirling around for eternity – we could watch them for hours! So why not put together some bespoke, DIY snow globes as wedding favours for your guests? Not only will they add to the wintery theme, but they will create that special personal touch from you and your husband (to be!) to your special friends and family. Check out some ideas here.

3. Wrap up warm and cosy

The temperature during the winter months at Glen Tanar can reach double minus figures (brrrrr!) so make sure that you and your bridal party are dressed appropriately for the weather on your wedding day.  There is nothing worse than trying to pose for photographs whilst you are shivering and teeth chattering! We absolutely love these cape and shrug ideas for brides and bridesmaids.

4. Create the cosy ambience

Get married in front of the roaring log fire beside the Christmas tree and even put some gifts under the tree for your bridal party, or hang the wedding rings on the tree. If it is cold outside there really is nowhere that creates a more cosy and warm atmosphere – bliss!

5. Bring winter inside

There is an abundance of natural materials that are perfect for wedding decorations during winter. Why not put together some DIY table displays using pine cones and red berries and mix it up with some white floral displays with woodland touches. We love these table decoration ideas.
