Glen Tanar
Cycling over the new bridge

Walking

Glen Tanar and its surrounding area are classic walking country. Here you can choose from a gentle family stroll through woods and meadows, longer walks along the glens or over the traditional drovers routes, through to challenging hill walking in the high Cairngorms.

The Glen Tanar Visitor Centre offers guide leaflets and advice on all walks and cycle routes in "The Glen". A network of way-marked trails radiates from the Centre and provides varied, scenic walks for all abilities – with distances ranging from less than one mile to five miles.

Wander amongst ancient forests of Scots pine, silver birch and oak.

Trace the Water of Tanar from Mount Keen to where it meets the River Dee.

Explore the Mounth Roads such as Fir Mounth and the Mount Keen drovers roads which are rights-of-way. Mount Keen is the most easterly “Munro” (hills over 3000 feet) in Scotland and there is a challenging 14 mile round trip to the summit. A short drive takes you Glen Muick and the dramatic cliffs of Lochnagar.

And for those quieter in-between days you may just like to picnic by the riverside.

Glen Tanar is the perfect base to explore the many walking routes Deeside and North East Scotland have to offer. Come and enjoy the walking with us.
