Management

Glen Tanar Estate is managed by the owners Michael and Claire Bruce and their staff, combining modern management methods and techniques with traditional knowledge and care.

Working with partners including the Forestry Commission and Scottish Natural Heritage, we blend the different land uses to deliver local and national benefits – contributing to the latest thinking in habitat management.

For example, here in Glen Tanar we are making every effort to reverse the decline in numbers seen in recent years of the capercaillie, the world’s largest species of grouse.

We’ve also been awarded the coveted “Certificate of Compliance” by the Forest Stewardship Council, confirming that the estate’s woodlands are managed to the exacting standards of the UK Woodland Assurance Scheme.

The Estate includes several EU Natura 2000 sites and the Glen Tanar National Nature Reserve, and is part of the Cairngorms National Park.
